“There are only three Codes to survive the Wasteland. Cars, Cards, or Combat.”
Mid 21st Century, Ezo. In a time of environmental degradation, poverty and war due to mankind’s destruction of the ozone layer, society has rebuilt themselves into two factions. The SkyFolk, the few and the elite, immigrants who claim to be from the Land of the Snow who built their homes above ground. Their powers of the Chill, the national Quantum of the Snow, neutralises the harsh modern environmental conditions of Wasteland. Blessed by the Good Word of the Federals, an Ancient military order who currently specialise in postal deliveries, the Folks wish to create a new peaceful country in the Wasteland by changing the ruined land into a snowy haven through science and the belief in the idea of change.
The Skyfolks sworn enemies are the people of the underground, the FeralDusts. The masses, the original custodians of the Waste, there have been many claims how the Ferals lost their national war against the Skyfolks. Some say they lost due to their inability to adapt to the modern Combat techniques the Skyfolk brought with them: Bullets. Others say that a small town angered the Gods by trying to eliminate the Skyfolk through the creation of an ancient gas weapon intent to permanently burn the unfortunate who were hit by it. Few correctly predicted the event ‘Destruction of the Sun’ would be a major pitfall of the Ferals, where the excess Methadine excreted from the collection of Juice, a rare and valuable energy resource for the citizens of Waste, slowly disintegrated the ozone layer. This lead to the Sun overpowering Heat, the national Quantum of the Waste, to the point where an epidemic disease spread through the land. There of reports of citizens naturally aligned with the Heat suffering from the Phantom Flame, a condition where they died from spontaneously bursting into flames. Others suffered from the Breakouts, where the skin burst into blistering red marks so severe their body parts started to fall of from the severity of the disease. Others suddenly petrified into stone humans; incapable of movement, incapable of life. FeralDusts blamed the Federals for their demise; they believed that their ways conflicted with the Federals conquest for a better egalitarian Ezo through removal of what they perceived to be freaks.
Now the Skyfolks, a civil and developed society they believed, currently tend to their Caves, researching new scientific ways to generate the cold in a harsh hot land, play their national pastime of Cards to stimulate their obsessive minds in psychological domination of their enemies, and tend to the Wasteland Flock – beasts unheard of around Ezo – to tend and conserve the legacy of the animals, to ensure they will never be extinct. The Skyfolks had little to no interest in the vulgar Cars the FeralDusts often devouted their times in. A renaissance of racing began after the ‘Destruction of the Sun’, where the abandoned roads, buildings and the constant changing of the desert landscape gave birth to a new form of violent entertainment. The prizes for victory were Juice, a rare form of liquid vegetables which provided fuel for the Cars, rejuvenation of the bodies of the FeralDusts, energy to power their homes and other uses. The FeralDusts currently tend to the Soil; to grow food for their sworn enemies in exchange for their supressed freedoms, and to lose their minds racing in a land they no longer know as their own home.
Combat, a national pastime for both groups, ironically binds the societies together. Pastimes they picked up their weapons to clash in wars, now there are sanctioned duels between the two groups to settle disputes. Founded by Emperor Hood of Liberty, he founded a new era of peace in the lands ruled by Skyfolks. He got this idea after exploring the lands outside of Waste, and saw how societies keep the peace through distractions and entertainments. Now many citizens of the Waste look forward to the Challenge Sign for a Duel is near. This events only exists in the Skyfolk protected lands; places such as Dystopia and Dominion are found to be lost causes. War-torn lands ravaged by bandits and opportunists looking for the Juice. The Federals, partners of the Skyfolk, often patrol the lands; disrupting races, trying to keep the peace through sheer terror of presence, fear through implementing the idea that the Falling Snow prophecy is inevitable; Winter will conquer Waste once and for all.
But no, the Federals, do not care for trivial events such as this. They stay in these lands due to fear. Fear not that the Skyfolks may break their partnership due to jealousy and envy of the Federals reputation and long history of dominating Ezo for generations. Fear not that the FeralDusts proclaim a tale that the Destined One will come and take their lands back. The Federals find the Skyfolks and FeralDusts conflict trivial in the long run. No, they fear that a power beyond their understanding has not been eliminated from the ashes and dusts of this world. An group whose destiny has been intertwined with theirs since the Dawn of Time.
The Wanderer has been sighted once more.
